The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to amend the Betting and Gaming Levy Act No. 40 of 1988 in line with the 2025 Budget proposals aimed at boosting state revenue.

According to the proposed changes, the levy imposed on the gross earnings from betting and gaming activities will be increased from 15% to 18%. In addition, the entry fee for Sri Lankan citizens entering casinos will be raised from USD 50 to USD 100.

The Legal Draftsman has prepared the necessary draft bill to implement these amendments, and the Attorney General has granted clearance for the proposed legislation.

The proposal was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Plan Implementation, and Economic Development.

Following Cabinet approval, the draft bill will be published in the Government Gazette and presented to Parliament for further approval.
