Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Kabir Hashim has been appointed as the new Chair of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), following the resignation of MP Aravinda Senarath in August.

Accepting his new role, Hashim pledged to carry out his duties with neutrality and to further strengthen the committee’s oversight functions. He emphasized the importance of COPA in ensuring accountability and transparency in the management of public finances.

COPA, one of Parliament’s key financial oversight committees, is tasked with examining reports of the Auditor General and monitoring government expenditure.

Hashim, a senior lawmaker and former minister, brings years of parliamentary and administrative experience to the position. His appointment is expected to give fresh momentum to the committee’s work at a time when public financial discipline remains under close scrutiny.
