Former Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa was today ordered to be further remanded until September 19 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
President’s Counsel Anuja Premarathna, appearing on behalf of the suspect, requested bail. The Magistrate, after considering submissions made in support of the application, stated that an appropriate bail order would be delivered within a week.
Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with allegations that he had misused his official position to unlawfully secure compensation for an unauthorised property damaged during the 2022 public uprising. The compensation claim, which had initially been rejected, related to a property not legally entitled to such payment.
