Former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga today withdrew an appeal filed before the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn his suspended prison sentence and the fines imposed on him.
The matter was taken up before a five-judge bench comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea, Kumaran Ratnam, Sashi Mahendran, Damith Thotawatta, and Amal Ranaraja.
During the hearing, the bench— which had previously allowed Ranatunga to pay the Rs. 25 million fine in installments — granted permission to withdraw the appeal.
Ranatunga was convicted of threatening a businessman in order to obtain money to facilitate the filling of a land in the Meethotamulla area, during his tenure as Chief Minister of the Western Province.
