Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa vacated his official residence at Wijeramaya, Colombo 7, a short while ago, in compliance with the newly enacted Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill.
The move comes a day after the legislation was passed, requiring all former presidents to return state-provided official residences to the government. Rajapaksa, who had been living at the Wijeramaya residence since stepping down from office in 2015,.
Earlier this morning, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, paid a courtesy call at the residence of the former President on Wijerama Road.
