A group of politicians and foreign representatives reportedly visited the official residence on Wijerama Road in Colombo this morning (11), where former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is currently residing.
The visit comes as Rajapaksa is expected to vacate the residence today, in compliance with the recently enacted Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Act, which removes state-provided privileges previously extended to former presidents.
Under the provisions of the new law, all official residences allocated to former presidents must be returned to the government. As such, Rajapaksa—who has continued to occupy an official residence—will no longer retain that entitlement.
According to a spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the former president is scheduled to leave the Colombo residence and relocate to Carlton House in Hambantota.
