The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a Sub-Inspector attached to the Gampaha Division Crimes Investigation Unit over alleged connections to underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padme, police said.
It was reported that the officer is suspected of maintaining a close association with Padme, who was recently extradited from Indonesia along with four other key members of an organized crime syndicate.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the extent of the officer’s involvement with the criminal network and any potential breaches of duty.
