The Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court today (7) granted permission to detain and question former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Pradeshiya Sabha member Piyal Manamperi for seven days in connection with the discovery of chemicals used to manufacture the drug ‘Ice’ in Middeniya.
Manamperi, who was arrested yesterday (6), was produced before the court this morning.
The arrest follows a major operation by the Western North Criminal Investigation Division on Thursday (5), during which approximately 50,000 kilograms of chemicals suspected to be used in the production of ‘Ice’ were found buried in a house in the Thalawa area, Middeniya.
