President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended the annual 2025 Esala Perahera Festival of the historic Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya and the Sri Saman Devalaya yesterday evening (06).

Upon his arrival at the sacred premises, the President engaged in religious observances and later called on the Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya, Senior Sangha Committee Member of the Asgiri Chapter, Ven. Urulewatte Sri Dhammarakkhita Thera. The President received blessings from the Thera, who also presented him with a special commemorative gift.

Marking the commencement of the fourth Randoli Perahera of the 2025 festival, President Dissanayake ceremonially placed the Sacred Relic Casket on the ceremonial tusker and later joined the local community in witnessing the pageant.

Also present at the occasion were Indigenous Leader Uruwarige Wannila Aththo, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratne, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, Uva Province Governor Attorney-at-Law Kapila Jayasekara, and Members of Parliament Sudath Balagalla and Ambika Samuel, among other distinguished invitees.
