The Department of Meteorology announces that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for evening thundershowers in several parts of the country over the next few days.

Weather Forecast for September 07, 2025

According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers may occur after 2.00 p.m. in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces. A few showers are also expected in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead at several locations in the Southern Province tomorrow (07), including Mirissa, Kamburugamuwa, Matara, Dondra, Gandara, and Talalla, at around 12.08 p.m. This is due to the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, which passes over Sri Lanka between August 28 and September 07.

Sea Area Forecast

Rain: A few showers may occur in sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly with speeds of 30-40 kmph, possibly increasing to 50-55 kmph in sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Sea Condition: The sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times, and naval as well as fishing communities are advised to exercise caution.
