A large-scale fire erupted last night (September 5) in the Kotaveheragala forest reserve, located in Warunagama, Wellawaya.

The blaze spread rapidly across the reserve due to prevailing dry weather conditions and strong winds, according to local sources. Residents reported that the fire continued to rage throughout the night, causing extensive damage to the environment.

Authorities confirmed that the fire was finally extinguished this morning with the aid of misty weather conditions.

Preliminary assessments indicate that more than 15 acres of the forest reserve have been completely destroyed. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
