Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) has recorded positive inflation for the first time in nearly a year, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced.
According to official data, the CCPI rose to 1.2% in August 2025, ending an 11-month deflationary streak. This follows the 0.3% deflation recorded in July 2025.
Food inflation accelerated to 2.0% in August, up from 1.5% in July, while the non-food category, which had been in negative territory since September 2024, also turned positive, registering 0.8% in August compared to a 1.2% deflation in July.
The Central Bank noted that this shift reflects stabilizing price dynamics across both food and non-food categories, signaling a potential turnaround in consumer price trends.
