Former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne has been remanded until September 9 on the orders of Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
The former minister was produced before the Magistrate’s Court today by prison authorities, after being presented earlier in the morning before the High Court in connection with another case. The High Court Judge had ordered that he be placed in remand custody and produced before the Magistrate’s Court.
A warrant had previously been issued by the Magistrate’s Court against Senaratne in relation to an alleged financial loss of over Rs. 20 million to the Government. The case concerns the awarding of a sand mining project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.
