The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has arrested a Development Officer and an Agriculture Research and Production Officer attached to the Andiambalama Agrarian Services Centre for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 300,000.

The arrests were made at the Agrarian Services Centre Office following a complaint lodged by a businessman from Ja-Ela.

According to the Bribery Commission, the two officers had demanded and accepted the bribe in exchange for facilitating the reclassification of a paddy field as non-paddy land. They also allegedly promised to issue a letter assuring the land would be treated as non-paddy until official approval was granted.

The suspects were produced before the Marawila Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded until September 2.
