The Department of Meteorology forecasts several spells of showers today (27) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
A few showers may also occur in parts of the North-western and Northern provinces, while Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts could experience showers or thundershowers after 2.00 p.m.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public has been advised to take precautions against potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rainfall: Showers are likely in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds between 25-35 kmph. However, speeds may increase up to 50-55 kmph in sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds could also reach 45 kmph in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Sea Conditions: The seas off Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times, while seas from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu may be fairly rough.
