Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered that the case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act against former minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife, three daughters, and son-in-law be recalled on September 9.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) is probing the case, which concerns allegations that, between 2021 and 2023, while serving as Minister of Mass Media, Health, and Environment, Rambukwella appointed close associates to his personal staff and used ministry-paid salaries and overtime to fund personal and political activities, causing a loss of over Rs. 8 million to the state.
The Magistrate also directed CIABOC to clarify whether the case should proceed before the Magistrate’s Court, as an indictment over the same incident has already been filed in the Colombo High Court.
CIABOC sought a new date, citing the absence of the investigating officer, after which the next hearing was set for September 9.
