A unified timetable system for both Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and private long-distance buses was officially launched from midnight yesterday (25).
In its initial phase, the new schedule has been introduced for buses operating between Colombo and Jaffna via the Puttalam–Chilaw route. The system functions from the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal in Colombo Fort, with the aim of streamlining long-distance transport services.
Transport authorities said the initiative is expected to minimize unhealthy competition between state-owned and private buses, ensure punctuality, and provide passengers with more reliable travel options.
Officials further added that the success of this pilot phase will determine the gradual expansion of the unified timetable system to other major long-distance bus routes across the country.
