Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala informed Parliament today that investigations into the murder of Sunday Leader editor and veteran journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga, as well as the assault on journalist Keith Noyar, have now been completed.
The Minister stated that the case files have been forwarded to the Attorney General for the filing of indictments against those responsible. He further noted that it was the present government which took decisive steps to revive these investigations, after they had remained inactive for years.
Minister Wijepala emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring justice in both high-profile cases, underscoring that press freedom and journalist safety remain vital to upholding democracy.
