In a Facebook post, Sabry credited Wickremesinghe with playing a pivotal role in stabilising the country on three critical occasions — ensuring continuity of governance after the 1993 assassination of President R. Premadasa, reviving growth during the 2000 recession, and leading the nation out of the 2022 economic crisis.
“Against this backdrop, his arrest as predicted by a YouTuber is deeply troubling. Such actions reflect a disturbing trend of vindictive and destructive politics which undermines our institutions and our future. This cycle of hatred and retribution must end,” Sabry stated, urging a shift towards “politics of reason, stability and gratitude.”
