A suspect was shot dead during a confrontation with the Police Special Task Force (STF) at Wewegama, Sooriyawewa, last evening.
Police said STF personnel had attempted to arrest the suspect when a shootout ensued. The injured suspect was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
During the incident, an STF officer was also injured and has been admitted to the Sooriyawewa Divisional Hospital for treatment.
According to police, two suspects were at the scene at the time of the confrontation. Further investigations are underway.
