A 26-year-old man accused of impersonating film director Somaratne Dissanayake to obtain nude photos of women under the guise of offering acting roles was released on bail today.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayathunga ordered the suspect, Isuru Madhumal of Polgahawela, to apologize to the director both in court and publicly through the media.
The CID’s Computer Crimes Division launched the case after Dissanayake complained that a fake Facebook account using his name and photo had been used to contact women aged 20–35, requesting nude images for alleged movie casting.
The suspect admitted to the offences and expressed willingness to apologize. Dissanayake’s counsel said while the incident harmed the director’s reputation, he would accept an apology without seeking compensation.
