Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is scheduled to be produced before the Fort Magistrate's Court today (21).
He was taken into custody yesterday (20) at his private residence in Mirihana by CID officers.
The arrest follows his naming as a suspect in the investigation into the attack on Galle Face protesters on May 9, 2022.
Tennakoon had earlier filed an anticipatory bail application seeking to prevent his arrest in connection with the incident. However, the Fort Magistrate's Court rejected the application.
