The Railway Department has announced that restoration work is continuing on the Coastal Railway Line following the derailment of the Galu Kumari express train near the Ginthota railway station yesterday evening (16).
The train, which had been operating from Maradana to Beliatta, derailed in the afternoon, causing significant damage to the railway track. As a result, train operations on the Coastal Line have been restricted up to the Ambalangoda station.
According to the Railway Department, several trains scheduled to operate this morning (17) are starting from Dodanduwa, Hikkaduwa, Kahawa, and Ambalangoda railway stations instead of Colombo. Meanwhile, trains originating from Beliatta will only operate up to Galle station.
Passengers affected by the disruption will be provided with bus transport from Ginthota to the next operational station, enabling them to continue their journey by train.
Railway authorities further stated that repair work on the damaged section is currently underway.
