The Retired Parliamentarians' Forum has announced that it will file legal action against the Presidential Secretariat for failing to release the Chitrasiri Committee report, which contains recommendations concerning the welfare of retired Members of Parliament.
Forum Secretary and former MP Premasiri Manage said the report had been handed over to the Presidential Secretariat some time ago, but it has not yet been made public.
He further revealed that when an application was submitted under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking access to the report, the Presidential Secretariat responded claiming that no such document existed.
The Forum maintains that withholding the report is a violation of transparency and accountability, and has therefore resolved to pursue legal action.
