Heavy rainfall over the western slopes of the central highlands has pushed the Castlereigh and Maussakelle reservoirs close to their spill levels, officials confirmed today (15).

According to reservoir engineers, Castlereigh is currently just 6 feet below its spill level, while Maussakelle is 7 feet below.

In response, hydroelectric power stations at Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya, and Wimalasurendra are operating at full capacity to maximise power generation.
