A complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against a activist of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya by Chaminda Jayanatha, Coordinating Secretary to Minister Vijitha Herath, over a fake video circulated on social media, allegedly designed to defame the Minister and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
A complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against a activist of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya by Chaminda Jayanatha, Coordinating Secretary to Minister Vijitha Herath, over a fake video circulated on social media, allegedly designed to defame the Minister and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
The video, which was shared through a Facebook account named Mujahit Hafiz, uses the image of Minister Herath and visuals associated with the JVP. According to the Foreign Ministry, the video appears to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and manipulated with the intent to mislead the public and cause reputational harm.
The ministry further noted that the video has damaged the public image of Minister Herath, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the JVP as a whole.
The complaint, filed today (15), calls for an immediate investigation and legal action against the individual operating the Facebook account.
