Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Public Security has called on the public, including both local and international media, to submit comments and recommendations on proposed amendments to the Online Safety Act No. 09 of 2024.
The invitation follows Cabinet approval for a review committee to examine the Act and its proposed amendments, which were published in the Gazette on July 31, 2024. The committee will consider all submissions received within one month from the date of the notice.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of public engagement in the review process, noting that the goal is to ensure the law reflects public input and meets both national and international standards.
Members of the public can send their input by post, addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of Justice and National Integration, and marked “Committee to amend the Online Safety Act No. 09 of 2024”—or via email to [email protected] or mail to [email protected] with the same subject line.
The Ministry encouraged all stakeholders to actively contribute to the review process, particularly as the Online Safety Act has drawn both domestic and international scrutiny since its enactment.
