Sri Lanka is set to host its first National Youth Conference in over three decades today (12) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, State Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara announced.
More than 6,000 young men and women from across the country are expected to participate in the historic event. The State Minister said youth clubs have now been established in over 12,700 of the nation’s 14,002 Grama Niladhari divisions, with all regional and district-level conferences successfully concluded.
“When we started establishing youth clubs, most of the existing ones were inactive, and six districts did not even have a district conference,” Gunasekara noted.
National Youth Services Council Chairman and Director General, Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijerathna, revealed that 52 young delegates have already begun training for the national event. The conference will also see the introduction of the newly appointed office bearers for the youth movement.
