Health experts are urging the public to maintain clean surroundings to curb the spread of dengue and rat fever, especially amid the ongoing rainy season.
Dr. Deepal Perera, Consultant Pediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH), noted that children are at higher risk during the school holidays, particularly those flying kites in paddy fields, which can expose them to rat fever.
He advised parents to watch for symptoms such as high fever persisting for more than three days, headaches, joint and muscle pain, and red eyes. These signs, he warned, should never be ignored.
Dr. Perera stressed the importance of seeking immediate medical attention to prevent severe complications from the disease.
