Sri Lanka will host a National Youth Conference for the first time in 32 years, according to Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara. The event is scheduled to take place on August 12 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, with more than 6,000 young men and women expected to attend.
Mr.Gunasekara revealed that over 12,700 Youth Clubs have now been established across the country’s 14,002 Grama Niladhari divisions, with all regional and district conferences successfully concluded.
He also noted that, at the start of the program, most existing Youth Clubs were inactive, and six districts had not held any district-level conferences.
National Youth Services Council Chairman and Director General, Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijerathne, confirmed that training has already begun for 52 young representatives selected for the conference. The event will also mark the introduction of the newly elected executive committee.
Organizers have called on media outlets to extend their support in publicizing the historic event, with photos and videos provided for coverage.
