Senior journalist Daya Lankapura has been appointed Chairman of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission of Sri Lanka.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made the appointment this week following approval by the Constitutional Council.
With over 60 years in the profession, Mr. Lankapura began his journalism career in 1965 at the Attha newspaper, the official organ of the Communist Party. A University of Colombo graduate, he has worked at Divaina, Silumina, Dinamina, Rivira and Lakbima, and served as the BBC Sandeshaya correspondent and at the Government Information Department.
A veteran courts reporter, he covered landmark cases including the Premawathi Manamperi murder trial at the Galle Magistrate’s Court and has been a long-standing parliamentary correspondent.
