The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed a downturn with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) shedding 68.23 points (-0.34%) to close at 19,718.00. Despite an initial drop of nearly 136 points, the index partially recovered as the session progressed. The S&P SL20 Index also declined by 27.32 points (-0.47%) to finish at 5,830.29.
Investor sentiment was dampened by subdued activity and profit-taking following the recent all-time highs. Market turnover reached LKR 3.31 billion, with 142.83 million shares traded. Crossings amounted to LKR 408 million, led by RHL.N with LKR 150.62 million from 6.84 million shares.
The Capital Goods sector led in activity, contributing nearly 30% of sectoral turnover. Out of the active stocks, 74 closed higher while 147 ended lower, signaling a broader market retreat.
