The Parliament of Sri Lanka has passed the resolution to remove Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
The motion was taken up for debate today (August 5) under Section 17 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002. Following the debate, the resolution was put to a vote this evening.
A total of 177 Members of Parliament voted in favour of the resolution. There were no votes against it, while one MP abstained from voting.
With the passage of this resolution, the process for the official removal of Mr. Tennakoon as IGP is now expected to proceed in accordance with legal and constitutional protocols.
