The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for today (04 August), predicting several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Cloudy conditions are expected over the Northern and North-Central provinces throughout the day. Additionally, showers or thundershowers are likely in parts of the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern provinces after 1.00 p.m.
There is a possibility of fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm in isolated areas within the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The general public is advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Area Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Rainfall:
Showers may occur in sea areas from Colombo to Matara via Galle, while other surrounding sea areas may experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.
Winds:
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota.
Sea Conditions:
Sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota will be rough at times, with wave heights reaching approximately 2.5–3.0 meters, especially off the coast from Chilaw to Matara via Galle (not affecting inland areas).
Mariners and coastal communities are advised to exercise caution during this period.
