Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to remain vigilant

Strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast indicating several spells of showers in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara today (July 7).

A few showers are also likely in the North-Western Province, while showers or thundershowers may develop during the afternoon or night in the Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

The public is kindly urged to take adequate precautions against potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rainfall:

Showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds:

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase up to 55–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Additionally, wind speeds up to 45–50 kmph are expected in sea areas from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.

Sea Conditions:

Very rough seas are expected at times in the areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Fairly rough seas are also expected from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.

Wave heights may increase up to 2.0–2.5 meters in areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
