Chennai: In response to growing concerns over the impact of microfinance loans on rural communities, particularly women, the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment has announced the formation of a sub-committee to address the issue.
The decision comes amid increasing reports that women in rural areas are facing financial distress due to the burden of microfinance debt. The newly appointed sub-committee will be tasked with assessing the situation on the ground, identifying affected individuals, and proposing effective relief measures.
Officials from the ministry stated that the sub-committee will work closely with local self-governments, financial institutions, and civil society organizations to ensure a coordinated response.
