Train services on the Upcountry railway line, which connects Galaboda and Watawala, were temporarily disrupted last night after several trees fell onto the tracks during heavy winds
The unexpected obstruction brought rail traffic to a halt, impacting both local commuters and long-distance travelers. Among the affected services were the Udarata Menike and Podi Menike, two of the region’s most vital and frequently used trains.
Railway workers were swiftly deployed to the scene, working diligently through the night. By midnight, they successfully cleared the debris, allowing for the safe passage of trains. The Railway Control Room confirmed that normal operations resumed early this morning, and all scheduled services are running as planned.
Passengers are advised to check with station officials for any residual delays but can otherwise expect regular service.
Railway authorities thanked the public for their patience and praised the quick response of maintenance crews in minimizing the disruption.
