Mahnda Rajapaksa extended his deepest condolences over the passing of legendary Sri Lankan actress Malini Fonseka,
"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the Queen of Sinhala Cinema, the esteemed actress Malini Senehelatha Fonseka.
"She graced the stage, television dramas, and especially the silver screen with her extraordinary acting talent, earning numerous accolades in all three realms. Malini Fonseka, a trailblazing actress who brought both local and international recognition to the film industry, was blessed with the love and admiration of the people for decades. She showcased her abilities across various aspects of cinema and also contributed as a director and producer. Moreover, she entered politics and served as a Member of Parliament, representing the people.
"I believe Sinhala cinema and Malini are inseparable. In countless cinematic moments, she masterfully demonstrated her realistic acting prowess. She was a blessing to Sinhala cinema, and Sinhala cinema was a blessing to her. In 2010, American news network CNN recognized her as one of the 25 greatest acting talents ever to emerge from Asia.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to all her family members, to the artists mourning her loss, and to her beloved fans. Though Malini Senehelatha Fonseka has taken her final bow from the stage of life, she will forever shine on the stage of Sinhala cinema. I pray for eternal peace for this beloved actress."
