Sri Lanka marked a significant milestone in sustainable agriculture with the inauguration of its first-ever bee park at BLESS Nature Park in Bingiriya on 18 May. The initiative aims to boost local honey production, reduce the country’s dependency on honey imports, and promote environmental conservation.
The bee park project focuses on forest-based beekeeping practices and is expected to serve as a model for sustainable apiculture in the region. In addition to honey production, the park will offer training programs for aspiring beekeepers and engage in conservation efforts to protect native bee species and biodiversity.
Officials believe this initiative will empower local communities, enhance food security, and contribute to ecological balance by supporting pollinator populations.
