The South-West monsoon is gradually establishing over the island, bringing with it widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. The Department of Meteorology warns of adverse weather conditions across multiple provinces, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alerts
Cloudy skies will persist over most parts of the country. Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Central, Southern, and Northern provinces. Particularly heavy rainfall, exceeding 100 mm, is likely in areas such as Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and across the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
The North-Central province will experience several spells of showers, while other areas across the island may see evening or nighttime thunderstorms.
Wind Conditions
Fairly strong winds ranging from 30–40 kmph are forecast over North-western, North-central, Northern, and Southern provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district. Temporary localized strong winds and lightning are also expected during thundershowers.
Marine Weather Advisory
Showers or thundershowers are forecast in sea areas around the island. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at 30–40 kmph, increasing to 55–65 kmph at times, especially from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota.
Sea areas off these coasts will be rough at times, with wave heights reaching up to 2.5 meters. Similarly, seas off Puttalam to Batticaloa via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, and Trincomalee will be fairly rough.

The general public and fishing communities are advised to exercise caution due to the risk of temporary strong gusty winds, lightning, and rough sea conditions during thunderstorms.
