Sri Lanka has officially designated June 7 to 13 as "Poson Week." The declaration was made by the Chief Incumbent of the sacred Atamasthana, Most Venerable Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thero, following a special meeting of the Poson Committee.

Poson Poya commemorates the historic introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahant Mahinda Thera in the 3rd century BCE. The week-long observance is expected to feature religious ceremonies, almsgiving, meditation programs, and cultural activities centered around Anuradhapura, the spiritual heart of the country.
