Residents in these regions are advised to take precautionary measures against potential localized strong winds and lightning associated with afternoon thundershowers.
That he Department of Meteorology forecasts widespread showers or thundershowers across most parts of the island, particularly after 1:00 p.m. Western Province and the districts of Puttalam, Galle, and Matara may experience morning showers as well.
Misty conditions are also expected during the morning hours in Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts, potentially affecting visibility on the roads.
Marine Forecast for the Next 24 Hours
Showers are forecast for several sea areas, especially from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Isolated thundershowers may develop in other coastal waters during the afternoon or night.
South-westerly winds will prevail, with speeds ranging between 20–30 kmph. However, gusts up to 40 kmph are expected, especially in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These areas will experience moderate to fairly rough sea conditions.
The Meteorology Department also warns of temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas during thundershowers, urging fishermen and naval communities to remain vigilant.
